The appeal process takes a long time. While some appeals can be decided within a year of the filing of the notice of appeal, most take much longer, sometimes multiple years. To check the status of your appeal, try one of these options:

1. Contact your attorney on appeal.

2. Look up your case on the Court of Appeal’s website by entering your appeal number on the website’s “Search” page. (If you have an adult criminal case, you can also look up your case by entering your name.) If your case is in the First Appellate District, your appeal number will have the letter “A” followed by six numbers, i.e., A######, and can be found on the order appointing counsel. Once you’ve located your case, click on the “Docket” tab to see what’s happened so far.

3. Contact FDAP.
